About the author

I’m a California girl, born and raised. I live on the north coast, tucked inside the otherworldly redwood trees and fog. I love it here, but a slice of my heart will always belong to San Francisco.

Growing up, writing was a refuge for me. I spent hours creating worlds on paper and in my head, first poetry, then short prose, and fiction. I had wanted to be a “serious” writer, The Great American Novel sort of thing, but my sense of humor was birthed with Monty Python, Mad Magazine, and Warner Brothers cartoons, all helping to form the profoundly inappropriate, pitch-black gallows humor that has kept me alive for over 50 years. No matter how old I get, I will always giggle at the word “duty.” I have never been cool.

Through the years, I have fought addiction, come to terms with mental illness, and looked at childhood abuse unflinchingly. I write about it on my blog “Nightmares and Laughter,” as well as in my first book, “Life Songs.” I now try to remember all that, so when I get nervous putting something out there, I look at that fear and say, “Do you see what I’ve overcome? I ain’t scared of you!”

I look forward to releasing my next book, but in the meantime you can enjoy what I offer here, or join the horror community on my Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Laughingbelle/
